Logitech MX Air Rechargeable Cordless Air Mouse

Specifications and design

Kitchen scale indicated weight of the mouse to be approximately 93 grams (actually, oscillating between 92-94 grams :)). 2,4 GHz wireless spectrum is used to communicate with PC via included receiver. All together, the mouse has 8 buttons and a touch-sensitive scroll panel. Laser sensor+ Free space(tm) motion sensing technology is used and a Li-Ion battery is integrated within the mouse. First impression is the eye-catching design. The entire body of the mouse is plastic, top case is made of semi-transparent plastic with a dark and glossy finish. The bottom case appears metallic with chrome finish at first, but upon closer examination you will notice it's also made of plastic. And it makes sense - the mouse needs to be as light as possible, especially in this case (as the primary use of this product is intended "in the air").

Dust, fingerprints, etc. are more visible on a shiny surface - somewhat of a disadvantage of glossy finish. To clean and polish the mouse, I strongly recommend using the included cloth or a similar soft cloth. Paper towels or other cloth may scratch the surface and after a while, this beast will lose its glow.

Shape of the mouse reminds me of a teardrop. It is symmetrical - welcoming feature for left-handed users. Design is very smooth and clean and it certainly looks very attractive on my desk. It caught attention of every colleague of mine who passed by my desk, although this could also be due to the fact that I was fooling around with the mouse, moving it in up the air, 5 meters away from my monitor.

The mouse has a total of 8 buttons. 6 of them are located in the middle, between the left and right-click buttons. Each button has a slightly raised edge where it meets the next one. The largest one in the center serves as a "touchpad" and it functions the same way as on notebooks. All you need to do is drag your finger up or down, the sensor will recognize the movement and translate it into appropriate "action". It works the same way whether on the desk or in the air.

Free space logo and a dark Logitech logo above it.

On/off switch is located on the bottom of the mouse. Located right bellow is the laser sensor with two Teflon pads on each side. Two more Teflon pads are on the adjacent side of the mouse along with connector for battery charging.

The cradle is made of the same shiny plastic material as the mouse itself. Surface finish is black, just like the top case of the mouse. Adapter cable is almost 2 meters long, sufficient for most users.

One thing bothering me about the 2,4GHz USB transmitter is its size. It's about as big as a typical USB key. If all USB ports in the back of your computer are already taken, and you're forced to use one on the front of the case, it's not hard to imagine that you can accidentally break a transmitter that's sticking out of the case. I would prefer a smaller, such as the one provided with VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks.
