So small, so big

At IFA, the world’s largest consumer electronics show in Berlin, SanDisk annouced 8-Gigabyte Memory Stick Micro (M2) for mobile phones. One year ago I was fascinated by M2 tiny memory card in my Sony Ericsson mobile phone. It is so small, and now you can have 8GB module, quite impressive for me.

Just to have taste about possible price, 4GB M2 card you can have for a 60 - 70 dollars. Let me note that announcement of 8GB card say Retail release of the cards and availability to phone manufacturers and network operators is planned for Q4 2007. Pricing has not yet been determined. [1]

Did you remember your first computer? Well, my one was Penium 75 MHz, 8MB RAM with 850 MB hard disk. Now this half gram and few milimeters memory (12.5mm x 15.0mm x 1.2mm, weighs 0.42 grams) has ten times biger capacity. And this is not end, theoretical limit for this memory type is 32 GB [2][3].
